Who lives in a house like this…?
In true Loyd Grossman style, the children in Year 1 have been studying pictures of their own homes and discussing some of the different features. The pupils then worked in pairs and examined each other’s photos, producing their own design which combined elements of both houses.
The next step was to start making them out of old cardboard boxes left over from Christmas. The main structure was created first with windows carefully covered with a thin transparent plastic. A chimney was placed on the roof and then the children started to paint their houses accordingly. We all thought the houses were complete until we had a very special visit from a local architect, Mr David Black, otherwise known as James’ granddad!
The children eagerly listened to all Mr Black said and delighted in looking at some of his drawings. Together they even designed a house for Miss Flack to live in! Having said a bit thank you to him for giving up his valuable time, we soon realised that there was more to do to our houses.
Stone and brick sponge prints, roof tiles, ridge tiles, window sills and lintels were carefully added to the houses and then they were finally finished!
Sadly, our topic on Houses has now come to an end but we feel sure our next project on Light and Dark will be just as interesting…torches at the ready!
