1st VII v Mount St Marys Won 27-8

This was certainly a match to remember, firstly because of the standard of play but also the torrential weather that our players and parents had to cope with.  Mrs Northcott started off the match WET after a whole morning of rain at the Sheffield U10 Tournament and she finished the day WET.  However, we did not let the weather dampen our play.

Today’s match was overall and brilliant performance by the whole side.  Olivia C and Arabella H both shot with confidence and scored consistently throughout the match.  Olivia caught some amazing balls in the shooting circle and finished off her performance with an accurate shot in the net.  Lily S and Chloe R-S worked the ball up to the shooters with well timed moves and accurate passes with lots of pace.  S. Anselm’s had noted that the Mt St Mary’s team were extremely tall and even made Olivia look small, which meant that they had to switch their tactical play and this certainly went in our favour in the first half.  Unfortunately I am unable to give quarter scores because after the first quarter, Mrs Northcott’s scorecard was so wet she could not write on it, however thank you to Mr Northcott and Grandpa Heap for keeping score so well ( even if Mr Northcott did miss a goal scored for S. Anselm’s in the 3rd quarter!).  Nancy S and Annie G-P played a good solid game, both players communicating well in defence and worked hard to turn pressured marking into possession gained and then another goal scored.  Emma H played against a very tall player and it was great to see her reading Mt St Mary’s attacking play well and working around the shooter to force the ball out of court.  It was great to see Emma tipping the ball and breaking the play down with confidence.  Overall despite the weather, S. Anselm’s once again produced some excellent netball, they are working well together, of which they are coping well against tall, feisty and solid teams.  It is important that over half term that our players remain fit.  You have had 5 weeks of excellent training and match play, keep up the work over half term and come back after half term fresh and ready for action !   Well done to all our players on their matches particularly under the poor conditions and a huge thank you to our supporters for their motivation and encouragement in again torrential wind and rain.  A special thank you must go to Grandpa Heap for keeping score so brilliantly!
