Player of the match : Arabella H
This was certainly a match that has taken some time to write up the report for! I must apologise for the delay in this report. After a good warm up, S. Anselm’s looked like a different team on the court. The team was poorly positioned, the passing was below par and the whole team panicked against a tall physical Wellow side. In the first quarter, S. Anselm’s were losing 2 -0 and really needed to step up a gear. Georgina H and Emma H worked tirelessly to keep the scoreline down and ensured interceptions to gain possession in order for S. Anselm’s to gain some points on the scorecard. Wellow House were very physical and it took some time for S. Anselm’s to assess the opposition but they calmed down and the end of the first quarter was a disappointing 3 – 3. In the second quarter after a crucial team talk, the team settled down and started to play there own game. However, the passing still needed to improve and would only get better with a more focussed and confident team. It was a great quarter from Arabella H, Lily S and Nancy S. Half time score was 9 – 3. Obviously the scoreline shows that it was another impressive quarter from the defence – Well done! There was a change in the team and Lucy R came onto court as GS and Fran F as Goal defence. Lucy certainly took charge of the shooting circle and looked confident and shot accurately. Fran F marked tightly and put immense pressure on the shooters. Nancy S, Chloe R-S and Lily S worked tirelessly in centre court, they started to use channels and open up the court play. It was a good solid third quarter which ended in a 15 – 5 scoreline in favour of S. Anselm’s. The final quarter was certainly the most impressive. The team continued to improve the standard of passing and the ball was starting to flow. The girls finally looked like they were enjoying the match – Hooray! Lucy and Arabella played well together and popped the balls confidently in the net, whilst centre court players Lily S, Chloe R-S, Nancy S and Georgina H brought the ball out of defence into attack well timed and accurately. Fran F worked hard on her man to man marking in order for S. Anselm’s to gain possession and improve the scoreline. Overall this was a frustrating match to watch and umpire. It was a huge learning curve for S. Anselm’s on Wednesday and the areas of weakness were worked on heavily on Friday, in order to get the team ready for Saturday against Foremarke Hall. Thank you to Mrs Heap, Mrs Harrison and Mr FitzHerbert for their support and for keeping me sane on the side of the court! MPN
