1st XI Cricket v Foremarke Hall Draw

S.Anselm’s 57-6 (28 overs) drew with Foremarke Hall 88-6 (30 overs)

Man of the Match - James B

On a fine sunny afternoon on Top Field the 1st XI performed better than in their previous match. The pitch was soft and damp, with it being clear from the first ball delivered that there would be little bounce or pace and runs would be hard to come by. The XI responded well to the advice given by the coach bowling much better lines and lengths making life hard for the Foremarke batsman, the fielding was also much improved although some simple catches were dropped. George M and Tom B had good opening bowling spells with George M making the breakthrough taking 2 wickets. All the other bowlers James B, Luke T, Rufus L, and Charlie T bowled well and William S really impressed. Foremarke found it hard to score and to restrict them to 88-6 in 30 overs was a good performance. S.Anselm’s knew it wouldn’t be easy batting; James B again began well and looked very solid. However, wickets began to fall William S going cheaply, Jordan W hit a few nice shots then chose the wrong shot to play and was comprehensively bowled. Max H, Tom B and George M all departed without troubling the scorer and the side then had their backs against the walls, but James B was standing firm and playing an outstanding innings. James C fought hard and managed to steady the innings before being bowled by a good delivery. Charles B then came to the crease and along with James B defended well to bat out the remaining 8 overs and secure a battling draw. Some real positives in this match, the bowling and fielding were good, James B was once again outstanding with bat and ball, James C and Charles B battling hard to secure a draw. The areas for continued improvement for all of the batsman are shot selection and foot movement. A tough cup match on Friday is an opportunity to register the much needed first win.
