S. Anselm's 144-7 (25 overs) lost to
Derby Grammar School 148-2 (23.3 overs)
Man of the Match Tom B
Having lost the toss and been asked to bat first things did not look good when Max H was dismissed for 4 in the fist over. However, James B and Jordan W started to repair the innings both being severe on any bad balls bowled. They took the total up to 52 when Jordan was bowled for a useful 21.James continued to play well then totally misjudged a slower ball and departed for 26. James C played a couple of pleasing shots before also being bowled. Meanwhile Tom B on a very poor run of form was beginning to show his true potential and was hitting the ball hard to all parts of the ground, he was well supported by William S and Charlie T. Tom was not out on 58 after S.Anselm's allotted 25 overs. This score should really have been 30 runs more if S.Anselm's had run well between the wickets and given the strike to Tom B in the last 5 overs. However, a much improved team batting performance.
A sloppy first over was delivered by Tom B costing 11 runs and this unfortunately set the tone for the rest of S. Anselm's bowling innings despite George M making a breakthrough in his first over. The Derby numbers 1 and 3 were very competant batsmen , running well between the wickets and being very severe on the many poor deliveries sent down by the S.Anselm's bowlers. This was particularly disappointing as our bowling had been excellent in the previous two matches. The Derby batsmen had a partnership of 133 and took their team to the brink of victory before James B took a consolation wicket. Derby secured victory with two overs remaining and lost only two wickets in doing so.
After a positive batting display it was disappointing to see the S.Anselm's players bowl and field so poorly. They really need to focus on their next match on Wednesday and get all three components of the game functioning well on the same day to record this elusive first win.
