S. Anselm’s 213-1 (25 overs) beat Grace Dieu 103-6 (25 overs) by 110 runs
Having lost the toss and been asked to bat the S. Anselm’s innings did not have the best of starts losing James C for a duck in the second over with the total on one. However, once Tom B joined James B spectators and players were to witness something very special. Both James and Tom played exceptional innings being very severe on any loose balls the Grace Dieu bowlers delivered hitting the ball hard , placing it into the gaps in the field and keeping the scoreboard operators on their toes scoring at nearly 9 runs an over. Both players reached fifties with 9 overs of the S. Anselm’s innings left and both James and Tom both went on to score deserved unbeaten centuries by batting sensibly and properly. This was an unbelievable achievement for both boys and a rarity in prep school cricket, two centuries in the same innings.
It was then the turn of the bowlers to perform, Max H made an early breakthrough dismissing one of the Grace Dieu openers cheaply and bowled very well, James C also bowled consistently. Charlie T bowled his newly taken up art of off spin very nicely and was unlucky not to take a wicket. The leg spinners then bowled in tandem and took the game away from Grace Dieu , William S dismissing the Grace Dieu star with a ‘magic ball’ and Rufus L bowling the best he has all season to claim three wickets. Luke T bowled a nice line and length and claimed a further wicket. Jordan W and Charlie B both bowled well with little luck as the Grace Dieu innings reached a close and a comfortable 110 run victory recorded.
This performance shows what huge potential the XI have and that they have learnt a huge amount already this term taking on board the advice given by the coach. This was a great team performance and fantastic milestones for both James B and Tom B and this could be the springboard the XI has been looking for to turn the season around.
