1st XI v Denstone College Lost by 56 runs

S. Anselm’s won the toss and elected to field, things were looking good when David C made a breakthrough in his first over and picked up another wicket in his 4th over. The Denstone numbers 1 and 3 were very competent batsmen , running well between the wickets and being very severe on the many poor deliveries sent down by the S.Anselm's bowlers. This was particularly disappointing as our bowling had been excellent in the previous matches. The fielding also left a lot to be desired. Many of the Denstone batsmen had a good partnerships and Jack H took two quick wickets to slow down the scoring, with Jack M-M and John W also taking a wicket each.
The S. Anselm’s reply began disastrously losing Charles B bowled by the 2nd ball of the innings. Rufus L looked secure and was playing well but was unlucky to be given out with his score on 9. This brought Max H to the wicket to join James B they were particularly severe on any loose deliveries and took the total up to 55 with only 9 overs bowled and a victory looked on the cards. However, some poor shot selection and poor running between the wickets saw the side slump to 57 for 7, only some sensible batting by Jack M-M and David C saw the side reach a respectable total of 93.
After what had been achieved in previous matches it was disappointing to see the S.Anselm's players bowl and field so poorly. They really need to focus on their next match on Saturday and get all three components of the game functioning well on the same day to get back to winning ways.
