1st XI v Foremarke Hall Won by 8 wickets

Foremarke Hall  136 for 5 from 30 overs     S.Anselm's 137-2      S. Anselm's won by 8 wickets

On a fine sunny afternoon at Foremarke Hall the 1st XI played their first fixture with a little apprehension. The pitch was good and the outfield was quick. The XI responded well to the advice given by the coach bowling good lines and lengths making life hard for the Foremarke batsman, the fielding was also impressive. Max H and David C had good opening bowling spells with David making the breakthrough taking 2 wickets. All the other bowlers James B, Rufus L, Ollie N, Jack M-M, Jack H, Will A and John W bowled well, with Ollie, Rufus and John taking one wicket each. Foremarke found it hard to score and to restrict them to 136-5 in 30 overs was a fine performance. James B captained the side well with good field positioning and he took three catches.  S. Anselm’s knew it wouldn’t be easy batting; James B began well punishing any loose deliveries and looked very solid. Charles B battled hard against a very hostile opening bowler. However, Charles was first to be dismissed having scored 9. There was then a passage of play which was a joy to watch, James B twice dispatching the opening bowler over the boundary for six and Rufus L was very secure and providing fantastic support to James. James B played an outstanding innings hitting fifteen fours and two sixes in a score of 81 and departed with a victory in sight, having had a century partnership with Rufus. Max H came to the crease and along with Rufus saw the side to a fine victory with only two wickets down and six overs to spare, Rufus was 28 not out and Max 10 not out. Some real positives in this match, the bowling and fielding were good, James B was outstanding with bat, as was Rufus L. This side are good and it will be interesting to see how they will progress throughout the season, if they believe in themselves and continue to work together as a unit it could be a very exciting season. I certainly am looking forward to the season ahead.
