A superb match with end to end entertainment throughout. Gayhurst were first to score with a quick chip through putting an easy score past the keeper, Cameron D, who hadn’t quite woken up. S.Anselm’s were quick to respond with a fast break allowing them to trickle the ball in from Edward S. This pattern continued with Gayhurst edging ahead, once again only for Anselm’s to pull level with a superb goal from Captain Will A.
The second half started at 2 all draw and Gayhurst had a very strong ten minutes with some splendid efforts on goal, which were thwarted by a more confident Cameron, plucking them from the air. Eventually a free kick awarded just outside the box, was blasted furiously into the top right corner. A final goal for S.Anselm’s was squeezed past the keeper on the narrowest of angles from Edward S. This left the scores at 3 a-piece and with only 2 minutes to play. The pressure was intense and in the frenzy Gayhurst managed to exploit a gap and put away a fourth.
This was the 1st XI’s finest performance to date and showed greater confidence from all. Particularly solid performances were from Jack H, who thoroughly enjoyed marking the girl on the Gayhurst right wing. Terrific, zesty defending was demonstrated by both Alex V and Jack M-M. Lewis J showed great work rate around the park. Man of the match was Antoine B, who strode away down the left wing on a number of occasions.
Well done guys, nearly there!
