1st XI v Grace Dieu Lost 5-0

This game started ominously in the opening minutes, with an early muddle in defence allowing the softest of goals to trickle over our line. It took us ten more minutes and two similar gifts to the opposition attack before we started to play. Grace Dieu were a talented outfit, with a lethal combination of size, speed and skill in abundance. The defence worked hard to try and keep face with Paddy D’s work rate being unsurpassed by any on the field from either team. Alex V marked his man out of the game which managed to neutralise this threat. Jack H used some intelligent marking at right back.In the first half there was little promise and the head wind impeded penetration into the opposite half. A nice attempt by Edward S was easily denied by strong opposition goalkeeping. We finished the first half four goals behind and were certainly please to get the wind behind us.

The second half started with more energy and confidence. Lewis J switched out to right mid and made use of some extra spread. Cameron D, who was quickly becoming a legend defending his net, was now able to put the ball further down the field with the wind behind him. This gave more opportunities for the forwards to move things about. Although the Anselm’s attacking breaks became more frequent, we still lacked the ability to finish. The sibling pairing of Alex and Elliot W started to bear some fruit up front, but this was still not enough to put a score on the sheet.

Sadly at the close of the game we were down 5 goals to nil. Cameron D had an excellent game in goal and is therefore man of the match.
