1st XI v Hill House Lost 4-1

Man of the Match – Alex Woolhouse

This was another frustrating loss. We looked very good in the first quarter and had a few shots at goal. The combination of Alex W, Ed S and Elliot T worked well together and they received some sound passé from Lewis J and Matthew N. We played mostly in the opposition half and put some fabulous passages of play together. Some poor marking in the centre meant we conceded two goals before half time though Lewis J had taken a fine shot to score before half time to make it 2-1.

After half time we seemed to get pinned back in our half and our defence weakened as our focus diminished. Rather than sending long balls over the top for Elliot T and Alex W to chase we played for too long with the ball in our half and allowed Hill House opportunities they shouldn’t have had. The defence needed to be tighter and the mid-field needed to dominate the second quarter of the pitch. More movement off the ball was essential and we needed to talk more in defence. Quick ball pumped into the corners and long down the field would have given our strikers opportunities but this, sadly, did not happen in the second half.

Ed S captained well and we witnessed some real potential within the team but there is much to do.
