S. Anselm’s 94 all out (22 overs) lost to Ranby House 110-7 (30 overs) by 16 runs
This was a good competitive match and one that the S. Anselm’s team knew they should have won. After winning the toss and asking Ranby to bat there was some good bowling from Max H & David C who restricted the Ranby batsmen to 22 runs from the opening 8 overs and James B with a direct hit ran out one of the Ranby openers. There was another run out from a direct hit from Jack H and at 27 for 2 Ranby were wobbling. The fielding and catching was top drawer. The introduction of James B and Jack H saw 4 wickets fall quickly in a fine spells of bowling and Ranby were 65-6 with only 6 overs left. A few loose deliveries were bowled and Ranby were let off the hook a little and their innings closed on a total of 110-7, a score that should have been at least 20 less if the boys had kept up their high standards set earlier.
The S. Anselm’s innings began disastrously with Jack M-M run out without facing a ball after a mix up with James B . Rufus L and James took the score up to 32 before James was dismissed. Rufus looked comfortable and with Max H the total reached 56 and a win was looking on the cards, but then 4 quick wickets fell to poor shot selection, but Rufus was still standing firm and whilst he was at the crease there was hope. Freddie H scored a brisk 10 but was then out and he was followed by Rufus for 21. Charles B 6 not out tried his hardest to see the team home but it was not to be and the team were finally all out for 94 and lost by 16 runs. The team were bitterly disappointed as they knew they gave away too many runs in the last 6 overs of the Ranby innings and batted poorly. They must pick themselves up and bounce back in their next match.
