1st XI v. Ranby (away)

Lost 0 - 1

This was a performance in total contrast to the display against Westbourne. Ranby were a skilful side with several individuals who were notably technically adept, yet we kept them at bay and in a sense were unlucky to lose to a goal which just trickled over the line. After the debacle against Westbourne, the team (with the same boys playing bar three changes) took to the pitch needing to show heart, courage and determination. They provided those qualities in abundance to battle with great character; it was hard to believe it was the same team. It's true that we would never have won this week's Arsene Wenger award for beautiful football but under the circumstances that was irrelevant. It is almost invidious to single out a man of the match given the complete contribution of the whole team but John B deserves the accolade for his stirringly brave, agile and sticky-handed goalkeeping.
