Sedbergh Junior School were on tour and had asked for a fixture, we knew this would be a tough match and this proved correct. Sedbergh won the toss and elected to bat in a 35 over per side match. The Sedbergh opening batsmen treated the S.Anselm's bowling with due respect, Paddy D and Jack H both bowling accurately and did not concede many runs, Paddy conceded only 17 runs in his first 5 overs and Jack just 23 runs in his 7 overs. The change bowlers let things slip a little by bowling too short and allowing the Sedbergh batsmen to score more freely. The score reached 95 before Ed S made a breakthrough, Will A took another wicket shortly afterwards but too many poor balls were being bowled and Sedbergh were amassing an intimidating total. Elliott W took two late wickets but Sedbergh finished their 35 overs on 186 for 5.
The S.Anselm's innings never got going against a top bowling attack, John W 1, Hugo R 3, Freddie H 0, Jack M-M 0 all departed cheaply. Jack H stuck around but could only muster 4. Charlie H struck a couple of 4's in his 15. Will W scored 4, Will A 0 and only a last wicket partnership of 30 between Elliott W 28 (four 4's) and Paddy D 8 not out (one four) brought an air of respectability and a total of 79 was reached, a loss by 104 runs against a fine opposition side, the strongest we had played all season.
