1st XI v Wellow House Won by 122 runs

S. Anselm’s 163-9 (30 overs) beat Wellow House 41all out (13.3 overs) by 122 runs

Having lost the toss and been asked to bat the S. Anselm’s innings did not have the best of starts losing James B for a duck in the third over with the total on three. Charles B followed shortly afterwards for 3 and Rufus L lost his wicket to a mix up running between the wickets also for 3 , the S.Anselm’s innings lay in tatters with the previous week’s run scorers both in the pavilion. Freddie H struggled to get used to a slow low pitch and departed with the total still only on 44. However, once Jack H joined Max H the ship was steadied and both boys batted sensibly. Both were severe on any loose balls the Wellow bowlers delivered hitting the ball hard , placing it into the gaps in the field and keeping the scoreboard ticking over nicely. The pair put on a partnership of 60 before Jack was out for 18. Max was compiling a nice innings and was joined by Ollie N, the pair started to increase the scoring rate with some lusty blows, the pair putting on 43 runs in quick time before Ollie was out for 21.There was then a flurry of wickets in the search for quick runs including Max who was eventually out for a fine 87 (15 fours and one six). Jack M-M had a fantastic last over hitting four boundaries to finish on 16 not out and a competitive total of 163 in 30 overs was posted.
It was then the turn of the bowlers to perform,  one of the Wellow openers was run out without scoring in the second over. James B and David C made early inroads, David taking three wickets and James two. Will A bowled very nicely and was unlucky not to take a wicket, Jack M-M bowled accurately and took a wicket, there were two further run outs and John W took the final wicket, with Wellow dismissed for 41 and a comfortable 122 run victory recorded.
This performance again shows what huge potential the XI have and that they have learnt a huge amount already this term taking on board the advice given by the coach. This was a great team performance. There are areas the team can still improve upon, especially their running between the wickets.
