1st XI v. Westbourne (away)
Lost 1 - 7
Westbourne were not physically bigger or stronger than us but they were much better. This is an inevitable part of sport; meeting far superior opposition is bound to happen on occasion and it's how you deal with it that matters. In that respect we were disappointing. One of our team tried to "rough up" the opposition, fortunately without success other than conceding a free-kick or two. One or two others were flippant or silly, hardly a testament to their courage or determination. Most, however, simply "went to pieces" so that they were unable to make a simple pass or even take a throw-in without getting it wrong. Amidst all this there was one shining example of how to cope with adversity. It came from Ollie N, our "man-of-the-match" by some distance. He kept his composure and nerve, played simply, effectively and well, emerging from a heavy defeat with his reputation enhanced rather than dented. Our next match, against Ranby, may be just as testing and it would be great to see many more of the team following Ollie's example!
