This was a game of two halves! At first we appeared sleepy and they were bigger and quicker than us. Our defensive line of three was frequently opened up and the back line and goalie let a couple of goals that should not have gone in. Westbourne did well to frequently turn our backs who were not quick enough to catch them. Cameron D was valiant in goal but needed to get his body behind the ball a little more and marshal his backs more vocally.
The second half was a great deal better and we held them off for a good 15 minutes. This was helped by our new 4.4.2 formation and by some of the replacements such as K Hynes. Freddie H fired some powerful shots at goal and Charlie H, Jack H and Elliot W all made some sound crosses that threatened their defence. We started to thread better passes and get around their defence as well. Paddy D played with great ferocity and commitment as did Alex V who was strong and showed some pace at times. Unfortunately Ed S did not get enough space and was frustrated as he was constantly closed down. Nevertheless, the boys looked much better and held their heads high as they knew they had improved in the second half.
Well done lads but there is much to work on not least – tightening up our defence.
