1st XI v Yarlet Won by 5 wickets

1st XI v Yarlet Won by 5 wickets

After a good victory the week before, the team were looking to build upon this with another good performance. The match was to be 30 overs per side, Jack H won the toss and asked Yarlet to bat.

Paddy D is now bowling very well and again made the initial breakthrough and bowled 4 overs taking one wicket and conceding only two runs, Jack H is beginning to bowl much better with good lines and length and he too took a wicket and his 4 overs only went for nine runs. The boys have worked hard at their fielding and on the whole this was good and the third wicket to fall was a run out as a result of a direct hit by Will A, after 8 overs Yarlet were 15 for 3. Charlie H bowled well without luck, but Ed S again took wickets , his 4 overs costing just ten runs and two wickets taken. After Charlie and Ed had finished their overs the score was 43 for 5 off 16 overs. Will A had a remarkable spell of bowling his first ball was hit for 4 , then he bowled 23 consecutive balls that were not scored off and he took a wicket. Elliott W bowled well turning the ball consistently and his 4 overs cost only 4 runs and he also took a wicket. Jack M-M and William W took a wicket each and along with another Will A run out Yarlet were dismissed for 53 in the 26th over. There were two catches each for Charlie H, Jack M-M and one catch for Hugo R. A good bowling and fielding display.

The S.Anselm’s reply again started poorly with Hugo R run out without scoring, John W and Freddie H kept the scoreboard ticking over until Freddie too was run out for 7 (some running between the wicket practice beckons, for all!) with the score on 16. John W and Jack M-M steadied the reply and took the score up to 46 before John departed for 20 (one 4), Jack H was out to a good catch and Charlie H out first ball playing an over ambitious shot, we were shaking a little on 49 for 5, however Jack M-M struck two nice fours to finish the match and he personally scored 24 not out (four 4’s), a good innings. This was a comfortable win and one the team should be proud of and shows just how much the boys have progressed this term. Well done.
