1st XV v Grace Dieu
A well deserved win against a good team; this was an enjoyable match, with both teams playing with determination and sportsmanship.
S.Anselm’s had the majority of possession in the first half, with strong running from Andy C, Henry T and Charlie S gaining valuable ground. Our rucking was much improved, lower, harder, and crucially, forwards drove beyond the ball. Two tries from Henry T and one from Andy C with two conversions from Alex W took us to half time leading 19 – 0.
In the second half we threatened to run away with the game, but a combination of resolute defending and a lack of continuity in our play meant that only two further tries were scored, one by Charlie S and a second by Andy C, converted by Alex. A rare incursion into S.Anselm’s half led to a well worked try for Grace Dieu’s best player and a final score of 31 – 5.
A team performance, a note must be made of Bertie S for his aggressive rucking, and Lewis H for his tireless support play, along with the try scorers mentioned above.
Result: Won 31 - 5
Man of the Match: Andy C, for his direct running, which frequently gave direction to our play and caused disarray in the defence.
