S. Anselm’s 1st XV v Lady Manners U13’s
This was a good win for our side. To play away, against a school with so many boys in a year group to choose from, and to not let the home side settle, was a real achievement. Right from the kick off our high tempo game served us well, and we hustled and kept the ball alive well – passing and linking between the forwards and back being especially good. The side looked to know what they were doing and played to an entertaining game play. Early tries from Henry T who scored twice and Cameron D, and finally Theo H put us in a commanding lead at half time –especially when added to by Alex W’s excellent goal kicking.
The second half was a slightly different story –uphill into the wind, and Lady Manners subbed on some fresh and big players (Lower Sixth!!?). This made the contest a tough and bruising encounter, and we defended well and hard, with each player making some demanding and physical tackles. We broke out of defence a couple of times and it is a testament to our finishing ability that we scored a good try (Andrew C) and conversion to make safe our lead. Lady Manners did rally and scored twice in the last few minutes but overall it was a really positive day, and great to see some positive contributions from Isaac S and Lewis S in their first match of the season.
Really well played.
