A fantastic, if a little blustery afternoon’s game. With S. Anselm’s taking an early lead, 3-0 from a kicked penalty (Ollie N). We got off to a great start. Sadly our reign of triumph abruptly ended with some of the sizeable Ranby players punching through the backline to put down a try, which was converted from a difficult position. Several tries in succession were conceded, before Freddy R-S managed to hammer through off the back of a scrum, stopping metres from the try line. This ball was picked up by ‘The Seth’ who placed it confidently down for the score.
The second half proved to bring some improved performance from our players despite now heading up field into a gale. Some further careless errors lead to another two tries scored against us. The closing moments of the game provided a succession of powerful drives with Rufus followed by Monty C, then Alfred H, to Will A, all powering us closer to the opposition try and finally allowing James B score the try.
Mentions must be made of the sterling efforts of Rufus L with his tackles and blinding running, and Freddie R-S for not only outstanding play, but by rousing the whole side time and time again. Man of the match must be shared by these two players.
