5 minutes into the match I was thinking where is a win going to come from? The wind was gusting upto 40mph, it was raining horizontally, and we were camped on our goal line and had been since the match started. On top of that we decided to run everything, from our goal line – but we did this poorly, from a static start, and not surprisingly we did not get far.

However, down the valley a chink of light appeared in the grey morass. We kicked and cleared our lines. We fought hard and took it through the phases, slowly we advanced like Scott of the Antarctic through the driving weather, and then bingo! A gap appeared and William H scurried over for a try! Sadly we let this go to our heads and immediately conceded a try in reply, but once more we fought back and had the upper hand. A fine move down the backs saw Elliott W float a lovely miss move out to Lewis H, who used his pace and determination to go over for another try. 10-5 up at half time it had been a heroic half with some superb defence and great counter attacking.

With the wind behind it was a different proposition in the second half. Captain Verge went over for a super flankers try, closely followed by Charlie H who had a great game. The performance was capped by William H scoring a second try and seeing us home. A great whole team performance.

29-5 was the final score (Charlie H getting a couple of good conversions). A super performance by the pack especially – the front row was immense!

Man of the match was Ben E for his roaming ransacking runs.

Sedbergh here we come!
