1st XV v Witham Hall Lost 39-0

Played on Oakham’s 1st XV pitch 

Amid glorious sunshine out team (in new kit) took the pitch with all the expectation of a new season. Sadly it could not have got off to a worse start with us fumbling the ball in front of our own posts and this lead to a try in the first minute. There was no doubt Witham were a good set up but we did not help ourselves much in this game. We split the ball in contact too often and looked sluggish around the vast pitch. It was hot and hard work and it was to our credit that the boys played well in parts in the second half, with the pack looking a much better unit. Player of the match Freddie R-S, had a number of barn storming runs and made a significant impact, and we all need to take a leaf out of his determined book for our next matches. 39-0 to Witham flattered them a bit but they were the better side on the day. Lots to work on.
