1st XV vs Mount St Mary's Away

S Anselm’s 1st XV 52 – 0 Mount St Mary’s

What a great way to end the season! The 52-0 scoreline whilst very healthy, had to be worked for and it was hard work at times. We lost a lot of scrum ball, and the opposition rucked and mauled well. Despite this the side can be very content with their final match of the season.

It was a cold day and handling was always going to be an issue with a wet surface and harsh wind, but we played with the wind in the first half and Ed S kicked intelligently to secure us a good positional platform. We successfully pinned them in their 22 for most of the first half, playing some good continuity rugby, and above all really tackling well, so that when they did have the ball they did not get far. First half tries from:
Todd
Chan
Salisbury
Thomas
And Dale
With three good conversions in difficult conditions from Woolhouse saw us 31-0 up at half time.

Turning up hill and into the wind meant that it was going to be a slog in the second half. Despite this we played some super rugby, running and linking well and keeping the ball moving. Once more some great tackling kept us in a good territorial position, which enabled us to score tries from Nakulski, Chan, Mallinson and Woolhouse.

The final score of 52-0 (matched stopped early) was a great way to end the season. A season that has seen the side really develop and play some super rugby. There is much promise in the side and I hope everyone keeps playing and improving at senior school.

Many thanks to the supporters over the season – today in the wind – they did very well. The positive and helpful comments from our supporters are very much appreciated by both myself and Mr Tadman, and especially the boys.

Thank you
SCN

Team performance: 5 Stars!

Man of the Match: Edward S – for his great positional sense, his faultless kicking and great running, but above all for his superb tackling.
