U13A V Oakham U13A Netball
Wednesday 21st January 2008

Held at S.Anselm's Prep School

S.Anselm's WON 17 - 5

POM  A player of the match has not been nominated due to the fact that the whole team performed brilliantly and confidently. Well done.

On Wednesday 21st January S. Anselm's were set to play Oakham School.  Their last meet was the final of the U12 Oakham Netball tournament in March 2008 and the score was S.Anselm's winning 8 - 7.  A very exciting game!  This was due to be a tight match and the girls were ready for action.  The match started and S. Anselm's put pressure from the start of the match.  Emily D played with aggression ( in a positive way) and really outshone her opponent in the early stages of the game.  She also sent good strong hard accurate passes into Hannah S to finish off with early lead goals.  Immy W, Charlotte P and Cecily C-E really stepped up a gear and attacked the ball hard with some exceptional play particularly from centre passes.  Lucy E and Issy E aimed to pressurise the Oakham shooters early on, of which they did with extremely tight man to man marking and super blocks from Issy E in particular.  Lucy E read her opponent brilliantly and cut down the number of passes into Oakham's attacking circle.  As the first half of the match came to a close, the whole team were on fire and it was a pleasure to watch the girls enjoying their netball with fast accurate passing and team work.  The half time score was 10 - 5 to S. Anselm's.
The second half continued to be fantastic!  Each playing position was given targets for further improvements and to learn new tactics.  What was particularly impressive for the second half was that every player for S.Anselm's was ready to put their key elements of the game into practice.  The defence proved they were 100% committed  and the attack proved they were not only quick but skilful with accurate passing and control. Emily D in particular played her best game of the season so far and I am looking forward to seeing more of her throughout the next few weeks.    The final score was a super 17 - 5 win to S. Anselm's.  The S. Anselm's U13 A team are ready for a super season if they continue with the super attitude and remain hungry for success.   I would also like to highlight 2 key players Hannah S for excellent captaincy over the past few weeks in particular for this match and Issy E for her continued 100% commitment and excellent man to man marking particularly playing against the strongest player on the court ( Oakham's G.A.).  Issy had a tough match ahead of her and came out on top - Well done.  I am very proud of you all - we do still have many tough matches ahead and lots of look forward to. As always, many thanks to all the parents for their continued support on the sidelines.  MPN
