A great afternoon of hockey with the side reduced to IX and playing on the sloping Endcliffe Pitch, the 2nd team were up against it. S. Anselm's started strongly with David C (Captain) spanking the ball straight through to the opposition D, leaving Monty to harry the keeper. This assault was deflected, but S.Anselm’s remained in the opposition half and moments later Dominic A had space and concluded the attack with a strong open side blast to open the scoring. With confidence bolstered S.Anselm’s began to dominate play with several more sorties into the opposition D without result. Finally towards the end of the 1st half a flurry of activity left the Derby goalkeeper unable to clear and Matthew B managed to get a finishing touch to the ball. This now put us into a good position for a change of ends at half time, heading down the hill with the sun behind us. Unfortunately Derby were able to put a goal past the superb efforts of keeper Hugo R just before the half time.
The 2nd half was slightly lack lustre for S.Anselm’s although Derby still did well to stay in contention. Seth A should be commened for diving about even more than usual. The real dominant force for S.Anselm’s was man of the match, in midfield, Paddy D. Well Done Gents!
