2nd IX v Hill House Lost16 1/2 to 10 1/2

2nd team V Hill House 2nd Team

S. Anselm’s LOST 16 ½ rounders to 10 ½ rounders
Half time score – 5 ½ rounders to S.A. 9 rounders to Hill House
POM’s Lucy R and Roxanne B

S. Anselm’s certainly had a tough first fixture of the term! They batted first and started off very slowly. The run rate was low and S. Anselm’s needed to start making contact with the ball and score some rounders. It was frustrating at times, but as the first innings progressed we started to see points on the scoreboard – hooray! Roxanne scored our first full rounder and then Hattie R followed suit. Roxanne scored a second rounder and the team started to look more confident. It was great to see Lucy, Hattie, Georgie H, and Arabella A all scoring crucial halves and the end of the first batting innings meant that S. Anselm’s had scored 5 ½ rounders. Hill House came out confident and hitting the ball cleanly. S. Anselm’s looked asleep in the field and Hill House scored 5 full rounders and 8 half rounders in their first innings. This was partly due to poor fielding and dropped catches. There was only one direction for S. Anselm’s to go. In the second innings, Lucy R led her team out to bat and S. Anselm’s certainly improved their game. The batting was stronger, and key players were making good contact. Hill House’s fielding was tight and consistent which meant that even though good hits were made, S. Anselm’s could not win a few half rounders. However it was great to see Lucy R, Roxanne B and Georgie H all scoring full rounders and again Arabella A, Hattie and Roxanne scoring valuable halves. The final batting score for S. Anselm’s was 10 ½ rounders. This meant that Hill House need 1 ½ rounders in the second innings to win the match. S. Anselm’s fielding was a lot better and it was great to see Lucy R, Arabella A and Georgie H all ensuring good catches, Ella N played an excellent 2nd post position and there was good communication around the fielding team led by Lucy R. Unfortunately Hill House were just too strong batting and scored a further 7 ½ rounders in the second innings. However, it was good to see the team playing better in the second half and we are looking forward to plenty of batting and fielding practice over the next few training sessions in order for improvements in the future matches. A good try today girls! Final score 16 ½ to 10 ½ rounders to Hill House. Thank you to the parents for their support, it was lovely to see you all. MPN
