Player of the Match Arabella H
The U12A side were looking forward not only to be playing on Astro again but also to be playing against Foremarke Hall. It was lovely to see as we approached the pitches Ellie W and Georgia R-S ( S. A. leavers 2010) looking on fine form as they have entered their first term at Repton School. They wished our teams good luck and quickly went off to Chapel. After a swift warm up, the team was ready for action. In the first half, S. Anselm’s started off slowly and defending was not up to scratch. The ball was 50 / 50 and even early on we could tell that it was going to be a very competitive and close game. After 7 minutes, the first goal was scored by Foremarke. S. Anselm’s quickly reacted and Ella N scored a fine reverse sweep into the goal to level the score. That particular goal certainly lifted the spirit of the whole team including Mrs N and the midfield players, Jessica R-S, Arabella H, Annie G-P and Ella were certainly creating excellent opportunities to have shots on goal. Roxanne and Georgina H worked tirelessly to win possession and pressurise the opposition early. It was also fantastic to see Georgina H carry the ball up into the S. Anselm’s attacking half with confidence and deliver the ball accurately into the S. A. attacking D. Foremarke scored one more goal just before half time and S. Anselm’s were not satisfied with the mistake in defending from the whole team to allow the opposition to go one goal up again. S. Anselm’s were awarded a short corner penalty with 2 minutes to go. Jessica R-S sent an excellent ball out to Arabella H who hit the ball with strength and accuracy to level the score. Truly Brilliant! Half time score 2 – 2.
In the second half, the game was competitive and very exciting. S. Anselm’s certainly picked up their game. Having played superbly in the first half, they were determined to maintain their performance. It was wonderful to see the tactic out of defence on the self take working from Georgina H to Arabella H. This tactic worked so well that it created another goal opportunity for S. Anselm’s and we were rewarded with another spectacular goal. S. Anselm’s went into the lead 3 -2. However, in no time, Foremarke had a break in play and after a series of excellent saves from Fran B ( S. A Goal Keeper), Foremarke managed to level the score again. With minutes to go, both teams were working 100% and it was end to end play. Very exciting for us all to see. The final whistle went and the scoreline was 3 – 3. It had certainly been the best match of the term so far for the U12A side. The team showed a confident performance which highlighted aspects of brilliance from every player on the pitch. A huge thank you to Repton School for allowing us to play on their fantastic astro pitches once again. Well done to the U12A team. Thank you to all our supportive parents once again. It is such a pleasure seeing you all on the sidelines. MPN
