Our first loss of the season was against Foremarke in another 25 over match at home. Alex W won the toss and opted to bowl.
It was not that our bowling was bad, but Foremarke had some outstanding players in their top order and one boy in particular, ‘AJ’, ensured an impressive total of 230 with an unbeaten 101. Everything he did with the bat seemed to turn to a boundary and when I felt a spot of rain in that first innings I did consider a few ‘arrow prayers’ in the hope of a miraculous intervention.
The boys in the field seemed ‘flat’ and, indeed, I did not witness the leadership and enthusiasm in the field that I had seen in previous encounters. In short, the opposition were a good side made to look better by poor communication and lacklustre fielding.
Although no bowlers stood out, Andrew C took his third wicket in consecutive balls (2 wickets in his last two balls during our last match) with a straight and swift delivery; well done for a ‘hat trick’ (not strictly speaking).
Our batting was reasonably good….
Best batting:
Paddy C – Scored 43 (including 6 x4’s) before being caught out.
Andy C – Scored 31 (including 5 x 4’s) before being bowled.
We managed to secure 142 runs in our 25 overs; pretty respectable. Hopefully we will get some coaching sessions before our next match. We certainly need to work on our field placing and dynamism.
Thank you to all those parents who stayed till the bitter end in what must have been a frustrating encounter. I for one appreciate the encouragement and support. We will learn from this defeat.
