2nd XI v Grace Dieu Won 5 - 1

The first game of the season for the 2nd XI proved to be a useful exercise in easing the team into the season ahead. The first half was all one way traffic as S. Anselm's finished the half 4-0 to the good. Edward scored the first goal from a good cross from Captain Ben. This was closely followed by the 2nd goal scored by Charles. Ben was working hard down the left wing throughout the half and was rewarded with a very well taken goal, struck with his left foot into the far corner. Charles finished the half by scoring his 2nd and the teams' 4th. 

In the second half we seemed to take our foot off the pedal somewhat, with many of the team looking to score a goal themselves. Grace Dieu had more of the possession in the second half than in the first and caused our defence more problems. Despite this Edward got his second goal to put us 5-0 up. Grace Dieu managed to open our defence a number of times in the second half and it seemed only a matter of time before they would score. This proved to be the case as our defenders were found far too far up the field as Grace Dieu broke away and scored a deserved goal.

Grace Dieu's coach was full of praise for our team, complimenting them on the sporting manner in which the game was played.

We are likely to come across tougher tests as the season goes on and a more polished performance will be necessary.
