2nd XI v Grace Dieu Won by 4 wickets

Our third match was a 25 over fixture against an overly confident Grace Dieu side.  They won the toss and chose to bat.

Best Bowling:

Lewis H – 4 runs for 2 off 2 overs.  This young man continues to impress in training and, indeed, in competition.

Elliot W – 26 runs for 2 off four overs.  Elliot W can turn the ball (leg break) a good distance and I am so excited by his potential (his game stats do not illustrate the missed opportunities off his bowling), that he will be a sure recommendation for 1st team selection.

In all honesty the bowling was not too bad, but eight dropped catches was unacceptable and how the opposition only scored 130 runs in 25 overs with this catching statistic, I’ll never know.    Can anyone guess what we will be doing in training?!

On the other hand, our batting attack sealed the win with 3 overs and 4 wickets to spare.  I take some responsibility for Theo H taking risks and being bowled for 1 (I do think he has good form and is capable of setting our team up for competitive scores with his future opening efforts and I will therefore continue to back him).

Best Batting:

Matthew N scored a fine 29 (including 2 x 4’s) before being bowled.

Elliot W scored 40 runs (including 5 x 4’s) before being caught out.  Some very good shots for only 1 run!

Alex W scored 24* (including 2 x 4’s).

It was great to see the ‘W’ boys in together, although I was amused when Elliot nearly ran out his younger brother; sparks may have flown.   They effectively ensured our victory in this match.

We will need to improve our fielding and, indeed, learn to turn some of these singles and dot balls into two runs and singles respectively.

The boys have fantastic team spirit and this is a team attribute that will hold us in good sted against all future opposition.

3 from 3....  great!!
