A chilly, but fine afternoon greeted the 2nds, whom arriving in full force found the opposition short of players. The match was played as a 13 a side by agreement.
Anselm's lost the toss and kicked off as a result. This was a deep kick bouncing 5m from the opposition try line. Charlie L speedily beat the opposition to the bounce and powered it over the try line, but being held up was unable to claim the try. Isaac niftily whisked the ball around the maul to put down our first try in just under 20 seconds of play. This was superbly converted by Isaac and was the first of three he kicked successfully in the game.
A second try was blasted in several minutes later by Charlie S, whose battering run proved unstoppable. A third try was smashed in by Charlie L, unwilling to be stopped a second time.
Next it was time for the backs to show their prowess, with swift manoeuvring from Andrew C which completed the first of his 2 tries. Things were becoming quickly too one sided and some of the key players subbed out to keep things more even and we allowed Hill House played their 14th man to give them a numbers advantage.
Some superb play from Alberto, sent him blasting unbeatably down the wing, where he was prevented from scoring by the benevolent touch judge (me) giving him out.
Other excellent play was exhibited from Bertie W with some superb tackles, Oliver G for great positioning in rucks and the sheer power of Nick P.
The second half was far more even as we did some celebrity guest positioning. A very creditable try was scored by Jonathan. Some worthy tackles were hammered home in defence by Nick T.
Man of the match was Charlie S. Well done guys, a great game.
