2nd XV v Maidwell Hall Won 22-17

This afternoon boasted some stupendous rugby, perfect conditions and well suited opposition. A dynamic start from the S. Anselm’s side led to some early pressure. This eventually opened the gates for Alberto A to break home with a first try for the team, which was then expertly converted by Isaac S, from a tough angle.

The forwards had an exacting battle in all confrontations as the Maidwell pack were both sturdy and determined. Charlie L and Charlie S as usual were like vultures with any opportunity and the irresolute work of Henry T and William W created a real challenge for supremacy around the ball. William W was the next to add to the S.Anselm’s score line, by burrowing beneath the unwavering opposition forwards.

The Maidwell team held themselves in contention and only ever lagged by a single try and always had the potential to punish us if given any quarter. There were tremendous first appearances from some newcomers to the game, including Tobias P and Eduardo M making their debuts.

The campaign continued in the second half and the S.Anselm’s back line really flourished with some incredible work from Andrew C and Bertie W, with both of these triumphantly crossing the opposition line to score, the former displaying some superb kicking and making real penetration. Isaac S was steadfast as scrum-half throughout the match. The final result left the score line a convincing 22-17 win. The most tackles on the tally sheet went again to William W and the man of the match was Andrew C. Fantastic work gents!
