2nd XV v Ranby House Won 7-0

The 2nd XV had a superb afternoon at home against Ranby. Despite some initial difficulties adjusting to the numbers of Ranby’s depleted squad S. Anselm’s superior power in the forwards quickly began to make some impact. S. Anselm’s dominated the scrums with the procrustean force of Charlie L and Hugo R adding to the pack in this match. Anselm’s quickly gained the advantage of territory and possession, before converting these to a try from William W, which Isaac S slotted smoothly into place.

Captain William was in great form and led by example with his battering runs accompanied by Alex T and Henry T on every occasion. Performance at rucks and mauls was really secure and the Anselm’s pack very much directed the play. Unfortunately after 10 minutes injuries forced Ranby to request uncontested scrums which meant switching to a 5 man pack and changing the run of the game slightly

The remainder of the game became a real war of attrition, with neither side able to slide home. Ranby were highly dangerous when we either allowed them space, or tried some egregious kicking. Fortunately these runs were thwarted with superb tackles by the likes of Jonathan D and Theo H. Bertie W and Andrew C made some good breaks, Andrew making the longest single solo burst, just shy of 40m.

Tackler of the match was Charlie S with the highest tackle count, however this was nearly equalled by formidable others such as Isaac S and especially Alberto A – who in his first ever game made some outstanding tackles. Man of the match can only have been the skipper William W.
