2nd v Westbourn Lost 45-5

Men of the Match: Nick Thorne / Tom Drury / Dom Hutchinson / Will B-B

Unfortunately, this was not an easy contest and, as three of the Westbourne side were over 6 foot, we were always going to be up against it.  At first we managed to string together some classy moves and we looked good.  However, as soon as Westbourne managed to pick up the ball and gave it to one of their larger lads they would run through us and score.

As the match progressed we managed to pull some of the larger lads down and slowed the score rate.  The forwards played reasonably well and Nick T managed to win some balls against the head.  Tom D made some vital tackles and aggressive runs whilst Dom H managed to run well with the ball and was brave.  Despite flashes of great skill, P Cope had a very mixed game and switched off at key moments.  Will B-B played with tenacity as did Jonah G. Our forwards needed to tackle more ferociously and get across to support their backs quicker.  The back line needed to push up as a line and make key tackles too.  If we had tackled more confidently the score would have been very different as we matched Westbourne in terms of skill, however we were always going to struggle to bring down children who were large and around 6 foot tall!

We will soldier on and hope to smash Trent College next week!
