3rd VII v Denstone College Lost 2-1

3rd VII v Denstone College Lost 2-1

Player of the match – well done to Alice Serby – GOAL KEEPER

Goal scorer: Hannah S – 1 goal

This match was certainly a game of two halves.  Unfortunately due to extremely poor play in the first half I feel that I can only comment on the second half of the match.

S. Anselm’s were down at half time 1 – 0.  It was essential that S. Anselm’s picked up their game and were determined to gain possession.  Alice S ( Goal keeper) continued to make save after save and Roxanne certainly came into action defending hard as right back.  Hannah S, Ella T and Arabella A all changed into top gear and were looking more like the talented hockey players that they are.  Maria kept positioning herself well but the midfield players could not get the ball out confidently enough for her to finish off with shots on goal.  There was suddenly a break in play and Hannah S took the ball on the wing and attacked the D with confidence.  She finished the shot off brilliantly and levelled the score for S. Anselm’s.  This certainly raised the motivation for the team and they started to look like they were eventually enjoying the game.  However, Hannah S took a ball to the head and had to be whisked off to the medical centre.  S. Anselm’s had to play 10 minutes with only six players on the pitch.  The team did work extremely hard to retain the 1-1 draw, however with only 25 seconds to go, Denstone spotted their unmarked player due to S. A. being a player down and created a clear run into the D resulting in another goal scored.  Alice S ( GK) played her heart out throughout the whole game and should be commended on her communication with the team both in the first and second half of the match along with outstanding goal keeping throughout the whole match.  I do hope that the 3rd VII take on board the half time team talk and remember this for future matches.  MPN
