It was a balmy afternoon and perfect for a game of cricket. The boys were excited and keen to get on with the first game of the season (motivation was no problem)!
We played 25 overs each and Denstone went in to bat first. They were confident batsmen and two of their lads scored over 50 runs. Our bowling was a bit rusty and, though we could perceive a gradual improvement in the accuracy of the bowling, as the game developed we were a bit wayward and gave away too many runs with no-balls and wides and these were counted as 2 runs. Nevertheless, our fielding was fair and we certainly showed promise.
When we came into bat we were chasing 235 (quite a mountain). We showed that we were capable and Ben Es’ 63 was a triumph as was Price’s 22 not out.
As the sun dipped low, we left the field having come second with a total of 167 for 7 wickets. A tough first encounter but we should be proud that we showed some promise.
