3rd XI v Foremarke Hall Lost by 13 runs

This was an exceptionally entertaining and enjoyable start to the season. Formarke won the toss and opted to bat, which was unusual given the agreed ‘overs’ format of the game. Formarke’s batters had a shaky start with Henry F taking an early wicker, but with several chances missed by the S.Anselm’s fielders, the batters soon settled in. With retirement at 30 runs the opposition went quickly through their order, but even the tail were competent hitters. Charles H (Captain) was able to make an impact with his bowling taking 2 good wickets, but generously opted to give everyone a chance to do some bowling. Kevin H also showed some great presence in the field and duplicated Charles tally of wickets. The end of the innings left Formarke with a very health 183.

Hugo R and Dominic A opened the batting for S.Anselm’s both were clearly focussed on the target with Dominic hitting Anselm’s first six of the season. Sadly it was difficult to achieve the run rate without risk and wickets began to fall. Hugo R and Charles H showed real confidence with the bat and both retired not out at the agreed 30 runs. Matthew B and Henry F also showed considerable flare finishing with 24 and 23 runs respectively.

As the close of the game approached a run rate of 10 an over was required, but despite this daunting challenge the S.Anselm’s batters continued to try their hardest. Sadly it was too great a task and the game finished with Anselm’s on 171, just 14 runs short of their target score.

Man of the match was Charles H. Well done!
