The 3rd XI had a nail biting match against Trent College. Having won the toss Captain Henry F chose to put Trent into bat. Trent’s batters clearly struggled with the wicket and lost some early batsman quite cheaply. However as the boundaries were very short it was never hard for them to clock up runs. Some excellent fielding and bowling were on display, with a fine catch and 3 wickets being taken from Harry R-S. Charles A was clearly on form and managed to secure 3 wickets. Despite the loses Trent managed to hold on and see out all 25 overs, but were down to the last man and posted a total of 132
After tea S. Anselm’s took up the bat and were keen to hit big and score boundaries, with the majority of runs coming from some big shots. Matthew B batted solidly, despite some problems with his choice of implements, he achieved a score of 18 runs before succumbing. Harry R-S took up the torch and was efficient in sending the ball over the rope, hitting the games only 6 and scoring 31 before his dismissal. With the loss of Harry S.Anselm’s suffered a middle order batting collapse, losing the next 6 wickets for 11 runs! This put the team still over 30 runs short of the total and although we had 6 overs still to play Harry C and Elliot B were are remaining, stalwart, batsman. Some epic batting by Elliot and great defence by Harry edged us closer to victory with the crowd reaching a crescendo as Elliot hit the winning runs.
Well done guys a fabulous effort all round. Man of the match can only be Elliot B for his prowess with the bat and coolness under intense pressure.
