The Gentleman's 3rd XI hockey ventured to Worksop College to battle against their U14B/C team. There were obvious size and speed challenges to the Anselm's team with the main part being U12's pitted against a side 2 years their senior. Anselm's however showed greater agility and stick skills from the off. Coming close to scoring with a number of opportunities in the first half including a one on one against the keeper by Montagu C. Anselm's fought hard to keep the score a 0-0 draw up to the first half, with several breaches of their defence thwarted a the last minute by Dominic A, David C and Elliott B with tremendous tackling.
The second half started well with bursts up field from Will H and Sam W in turn, but sadly neither able to complete on their hard work by finding the backboards. All too quickly the Worksop forwards finally got their forwards game together and began to batter the defensive line, with Toby S providing several spectacular saves, but unable to stop two successive strikes which put us behind by 2 goals to nil.
The final whistle left the 3rds with a 2-0 loss, but having played some excellent hockey and had a great afternoon out. Player of the match was Michael H.
Well done Gents!
