Boarding continues to be spectacularly vibrant this term and there is so much to look forward across this coming academic year. The Houses are filling up fast as the boarders have never been as active and well-looked after. Junior boarders now have the chance to weekly board if they choose and the full-boarders have numerous exeats and opportunities to see their parents on a regular basis so the boarding continues to be intimate, warm and family centred yet full of activity, challenges and new experiences.
What’s coming up this term?
Weekends and events:
This term we have some fabulous events to look forward to such as the Halloween celebrations, Bonfire Night, the Christmas Feast and School House Mission Impossible. We have a myriad of Sunday activities ahead too and we will be canoeing, raft building and climbing, there is a paintball trip, a visit to the water slides at Ponds Forge and visits to Chatsworth, trips to Felicinis, a visit from Natural England not to mention some cooking, wide-games, den building, jewellery design and much else. Mr Wood has even been doing some morning fitness training for the gladiators and Mr Northcott has had the water-slide out too. We will be getting the very best out of the Peak District National Park and making sure that your children are entertained, challenged and form precious friendships!
Evenings:
As ever, the evenings are jam packed thanks to the evening staff and wonderful Houseparents who lay on a mass of activities such as parlour games, board games, free swims, Cornish Longball and murder mystery evenings. This will ensure there is never a dull moment. The new swim training sessions have proven to be very popular too. There is also close support during prep which is done at a civilised time and is well-monitored by academic staff. Furthermore we welcome some academic visiting speakers and have just hosted Mrs Parsons, the Head of Sixth Form at Birkdale School. We will be welcoming Loretto School soon and they will perform one evening next month. Inaddition, there will be trips to the theatre and local historical sites for the boarders too. We are also be offering some Mandarin teaching in response to the meteoric rise of China - as everyone knows China is the world’s fastest growing economy so some Mandarin may come in handy! Such opportunities really do broaden the pupils’ minds and enhance their educational prospects. The Daily Telegraph recently reported on the "erosion of childhood" in the modern world - not at S. Anselm's!
How do I find out more?
If you would like to take advantage of the fabulous opportunities available within the boarding Houses or if you would like to discuss the boarding option for your child do not hesitate to contact Richard Mace (Head of Boarding) on 07967203843 and he would be delighted to explain what is available and conduct a tour of the Houses.
Furthermore, on Friday 14th October there will be a trial boarding weekend for those wishing to try out some boarding and this will finish on Monday 17th. These weekends fill up fast so do let the Headmaster’s secretary know as soon as possible if you wish to take advantage of this weekend.
Also on Friday 14th at 5.30pm there will be a presentation entitled, "What goes on upstairs?" for parents and children to describe and explain the boarding at the school and this will take place in the Foster Common Room.
Here’s to 2011-2012 and all the excitements and opportunities that lay before us!
