The u8 TAG rugby team played in the Hill House School’s rugby festival on Tuesday. We played teams from Clifton Prep, York, Hill House, and QEGS, Wakefield. The boys played some excellent tag rugby scoring some excellent team tries and tagging with great energy and enthusiasm. Well done for winning three games and drawing one. A very enjoyable day of rugby!
The Under 9s played in a set of triangular rugby matches against St Peter and Paul’s and Barlborough on Tuesday. We played superbly and tackled hard. We beat St Peter and Pauls comfortable 7-1 and started to pass the ball around more. Against Barlborough they had three strong runners who we tackled well. We were 5-4 up until the final minute when we conceded the equalising try. One win and one draw. Well done to Goodluck O for being top try scorer and to Neville W for his evasive running and good tackling.
On Wednesday the Under 11s played Grace Dieu at home. Our line speed was much better as we closed down their attack. In attack we started to look for space and the boys tackled well against some big Grace Dieu boys. Congratulations to Oliver G who was given Man of the Match for his committed rucking and to Harry C for his tackling. A good win 9-6 to S. Anselm's.
On Saturday the House Rugby Tournament took place for both Junior’s and Senior’s. Churchill’s, on paper, looked to have put out two strong teams and were impressive in their team play. In the Junior event Charles W led Churchills in their attacking play and was top try scorer as well in the march to victory. However Nelson’s put up some strong performances to secure second place with Tom F leading them into two wins and second place. Wellies and Pitts played out the only draw of the afternoon. This point for Wellingtons was to prove vital in gaining second place overall. In the Senior event the strength of Churchills team allowed for an expansive game and a number of good tries were scored as they also romped to victory. Wellies worked hard throughout the afternoon with only seven players fit but in turning over Pitts achieved a creditable second place both in the Seniors and overall. Nelsons offered some resistance led by the ‘Admiral’ John B in his sloop but tired as the afternoon wore on.
