Year 3 have been reading ‘The Owl that was Afraid of the Dark’ by Jill Tomlinson as their class reading book. The pupils were so inspired by the story that they decided to make up their own chapter. They had to create a character for ‘Plop’ (a baby barn owl) to meet and find out more about the dark.
The children spent time drafting their ideas, creating a story using narrative and dialogue, and finally editing their draft before re-writing it!
Whilst writing out the final version, the children made sure they used their neatest handwriting and started a new line for a new speaker!
Miss Flack and Mr Feldman were so impressed that they awarded everyone a ‘show-up’. The budding authors then invited Year 2 up to the Prep School where they read their stories aloud with beautiful expression. It was super to see the Year 2 pupils listening so carefully. We are sure Jill Tomlinson would be impressed!
The stories are displayed in the School Library for people to read at their leisure.
