Chatsworth Horse Trials

Chatsworth Horse Trials

Despite the terrible forecast of cloud and rain showers we took our chances and went to Chatsworth Horse Trials. Fortunately as we opened the curtains in the morning we were greeted with the sun shining. Full English ensured we were stocked up ready for the busy day ahead. Bacon, sausages, fried bread, mushrooms, tomatoes, hash browns and black pudding makes my mouth water at the very sound of it. Afterwards the Year 7 and 8s went down to Bakewell on a mission – and no not just to get as much tuck as they could with their £1 pocket money. They had to go to the charity shops to find some new films for the Junior and Senior common rooms.

Zara Phillips (Tindall) competing

Text Box: Zara Tindell (Phillips) jumping next to the S. Anselm’s StandCoats on and we hopped on the minibuses with our factor 50 sun cream and bottles of water. As we arrived at the show, there were very few clouds in the sky and there was a real buzz in the atmosphere. We were greeted by Mr and Mrs Phillips who were looking after the S. Anselm’s Stand, which had the most spectacular view of the Show jumping ring. Over the past few days it has been great to see parents, children new and old come by and catch up and it was great to see some of our past pupils participating in some of the events.

We had a great afternoon of food, with some of the boarders demolishing some of the largest burgers I have ever seen, paella, fish and chips and to finish it off we went to the sweet stand where we had to carefully fill a bag up with enough sweets to satisfy but certainly not too much to tip the balance too far. Most children did well in saving enough to go on rides. The boys and girls all chose to go on the bouncy high slide for 10 minutes. The rest of us visited the falcon stall and enjoyed some races to and from the gates.

That evening the children were on great form, recounting the great day they had at Chatsworth. We had a good turnout at Sunday Supper for roast chicken and stuffing before settling down for the evening. Next weekend we are camping at the Ludlam’s. Please can the children make sure they have sleeping bag, roll mat, pillow, torch or head torch, wellies, waterproof clothing and extra warm clothing ie hoodie and tracksuit bottoms.
