Girls’ Games Update
Gabrielle H, Niamh O’B, Eloise S and Phoebe W on being selected for the Derbyshire JAC County Hockey Squad and Georgina S who has been selected for Leicestershire JAC County Hockey Squad. Well done girls!
Wednesday saw two of our matches being cancelled due to SNOW! However, our U12A squad were in action at a bitterly cold Denstone College, playing in their tournament. Unfortunately they were still in minibus mode for the first game against the hosts, but went on to score 10 goals in the rest of the initial rounds, beating The Friary 4 – 0; Nottingham High 3 – 0 and St Edwards 3 – 0. The girls held out to Foremarke for seven minutes of the eight minute semi-final, succeeding in rattling them and going very close to scoring on a number of occasions, in a brilliant game. However, the Foremarke goalie was superb and their astro experience saw them score in the last minute of the game to take them through to the final; with our girls finishing a commendable 3rd overall.
On Saturday our U12 and U13 girls were in action against Mount St Mary’s, with the U13A team game being particularly close and very exciting, resulting in a 4 – 4 draw, with Arabella G being player of the match. Congratulations to Elena LC who scored her first ever hockey goal for the school, she has made amazing progress and had never picked up a hockey stick prior to joining the school in September. A special well done too to Miss P, who recently passed her minibus test and did a magnificent job of driving the U13 squad to this match! Mount St Mary’s had requested that we bring a large squad of U12 girls, as a few of their girls were involved in a cross country race, so we took a squad of 12. We were first to score, with a cracking goal from the edge of the D by Isobel E, before Katie S clinched our second. The game at this stage was fairly end to end, with Mount St Mary’s claiming a goal back soon after.
However, our girls proved to have the better finish, with Isobel claiming her second goal and Niamh O’B our fourth before half time. Two more goals from Mount St Mary’s followed in the second half; but Isobel claimed a hat-trick, whilst Niamh scored her second goal and Phoebe W one goal to make the final score 7 – 3 to us. Well played everybody, you coped really well with the substitutions and team changes throughout this game - a fine team performance by all. Niamh was selected by the Mount St Mary’s girls as player of the match, whilst the team managers selected Isobel for her amazing surges forward on the right wing and for scoring a hat-trick!
The U10A team were in action at the Foremarke Hall Tournament on Saturday, facing some tough opposition. It was a round robin competition and the girls won their match against Ratcliffe 2 – 0; drew against Spratton Hall, Warwick Prep and Pennine Way and lost their games against the hosts and Fairfield, to finish just out of the medals in 4th place overall, a good effort.
This week our U13A and U12A teams will be away at Abbotsholme, with both matches starting at 3pm; whilst our U11A and U11B teams will be away at Terra Nova, on Wednesday. Our junior girls have another astro session at Cavendish Fields on Tuesday during games, in preparation for the junior house hockey matches after exeat. Enjoy the exeat when it comes everybody!

England vs New Zealand Netball International, Wednesday 2nd February, Echo Arena Liverpool
We have managed to purchase tickets for this first class match, against the world’s number 1 (New Zealand) and world’s number 3 (England). It promises to be a fast, exciting, action-packed game; providing our girls with an opportunity to see top class netball played at its best. Last year the girls went to see England play Australia at the same venue and had an amazing night! There are enough tickets for all girl full boarders, along with all girls in years 6, 7 and 8. Please email Mrs B if your daughter is in Years 6, 7 or 8 and does not wish to go on the trip, so we are able to offer these tickets to the younger year groups, by Monday 28th November.
