Girls Senior Inter- House Hockey

The sun shone for us on Saturday for the first House hockey matches of the season. The senior girls were on fine form and it was super to see them battling so hard on the field, for the honour of their houses. The four captains – Miriam A (for Churchills); Tara O’ R (for Nelsons); Grace T (for Pitts) and Violet B (for Wellingtons) all did a super job in organising, warming up and encouraging their teams. Special mention must go to Isobel and Amelia E, Daisy L, Nicola S and Niamh O’B who stepped in to play for their houses, despite being in Year 5 they put in some good tackles against the older girls and sometimes even won the ball, well played all! Thanks to everyone who came to support, the atmosphere on top field was super and it was great to see so many older brothers and sisters (who were still on half term,) supporting. Thanks to Julie and her team for the amazing pumpkin soup and other refreshments and Mr Brock, Mrs Elvin, Miss Flack, Miss Southam and Miss Phillips who helped me with the umpiring and results collation. The girls listed below were all worthy winners of the ‘Player for the Tournament’ Awards for their houses, congratulations to them:
Churchills – Miriam A
Nelsons – Sophie C
Pitts – Natalie G
Wellingtons – Violet B
There were some good close games, but one of the houses did dominate throughout the afternoon. Unfortunately Pitts were a team member short for the duration of the tournament, but put up a good fight even beating a team who had one more player than themselves in the first game. Thanks to Churchills and Nelsons for their superb sporting etiquette, in lending Pitts a player for the other two matches. As the results below show, despite this disadvantage they had a highly successful afternoon!
1st – Nelsons – 15 points
2nd – Pitts – 9 points
3rd – Churchills - 7 points
4th – Wellingtons – 5 points
