Girls Undefeated in Barbados!

Girls Undefeated in Barbados!

The girls have now completed all of their six netball matches in Barbados and the results are: Played 6, Won 5, Drew 1, meaning they are undefeated on this tour! Well played everybody!!

More details below:

1sts v St Giles, Won 13 - 7, Player of the match - Sophie J

This was a great game to watch, with St Giles starting the game like rockets, and the score being 3 - 2 to SA at quarter time. St Giles were very quick on the attack after winning back possession of the ball, often leaving our girls trailing; but defence Emily H and Sophie J had a stormer, often getting a tip on the ball and so often prevented them from delivering their last pass into the D. Our girls reacted well under pressure, adding 6 more goals to their total in the second quarter and St Giles also struggled to keep up with our team when we were on the attack. Shooters Sophie C and Tara O'R remained cool and calm under pressure and we led by 5 goals at half time. The last two quarters were again closely contested and it was great for the girls to be really tested after their easy match the previous day. The SA girls really stepped up their game against a tough opposition and this was a super result against a slick, Barbados team, well played everybody!

2nds v St Giles, Won 17 - 7, Player of the match - Mimi C

This was a great game, with the score being 2 - 1 to SA at quarter time and both teams scoring three goals each in the 3rd quarter. However, it was the 2nd and 4th quarters that really saw SA step up their game, with shooters Livi and Georgie really putting their shots on target and scoring an impressive 6 goals in each of these quarters. Mimi and Laura dominated in the middle third, with both girls finding good space on the court and both making some super passes into the D. The court was covered with a roof, but the sides were open, ensuring breezes blew through the playing area and the conditions suited the girls. A great team effort from all and one that saw them having more stamina than their opposition, especially in the last quarter.

1sts v Grantly Prescott, Won 24 - 6, Player of the match - Emily H

This game began with 'Mother Sally' a teacher at Grantly Prescott sharing a traditional Barbados folk dance with us, and Amber and Georgie being called upon to dance with her - a great effort by both girls! George Lamming then shared a cheerleader routing with us, before presenting each of the girls with a scarf.

The 1sts enjoyed an easy ride in their final match of the tour, against a less organised team than themselves. Shooters Tara and Sophie coped easily with the ridiculously low posts and both really dominated in the D, easily converting their shots at goal. In defence Emily H and Sophie C again worked their socks off, quickly turning over possession of the ball and working hard to clear the ball out of the defending end. Mid court players Violet, Amber and Lily, also made some super interceptions and their passing was slick and smooth, ensuring the ball had an easy passage up the court. A great team effort by all, with our opposition choosing captain Emily as the POM.

2nds v George Lamming, Drew 13 - 13, Player of the match - Laura D

This was great game to end our tour with and possibly one that the girls will never forget. It would be fair to say that we did not get off to the best of starts with George Lamming starting strongly and five minutes into the quarter we were 7 - 1 down! We stepped it up a bit before the end of the quarter to take the score back to 7 - 4, but some of the team were clearly still sat on the bus, despite having been at the school for over an hour by this stage! A quick chat at quarter time and normal service was almost resumed, with SA scoring two more, but also preventing George Lamming from adding any further goals to their total. Lexi was super in defence, whilst Laura found super spaces in the middle third and Georgie shot impressively despite receiving a knock to her finger in the previous day's game. Half time saw us trailing by one goal. In the third quarter things got tense with the GL coach clearly wanting to win this game. The shooters Livi and Georgie coped brilliantly with the pressure and Mimi also remained cool and calm in often stressful situations. By the end of this quarter we were level pegging with GL, both teams on 11 goals. The final quarter saw more pressure for the shooters, with several decisions going against them, however, full credit to the team, they were not going to let this match slip away from them and shortly before the end of the game came back from being 12 - 13 down to steal an equaliser. Well played everybody, you all handled the pressure brilliantly in this game, full credit to you all!!

A huge thank you to Lexi and Livi's Auntie and Uncle; along with Violet's mum, dad and brother for supporting us in our Barbados matches, we really appreciated having you on the sideline and all of your encouragement throughout the games! The girls are now looking forward to the Catamaran trip tomorrow and West Coast beach tour on Sunday - a little down time after their fantastic match performances!
