Headmaster's Start of year letter

12th September 2016

Dear Parents

It is wonderful to see all the children return to school enthusiastic and full of beans and also having enjoyed a wonderful day yesterday.  My thanks to the Social Committee for all their hard work making it such a wonderful day.  Thanks also to Mr Watt for organising the bike ride and I should say to the cyclists who passed me on the road, as I was attempting to walk the course, for their words of encouragement!

New timetables, settings and routines all take time to settle down, so a little patience may be required!  If there are any queries regarding the routines please make contact with your child’s Form Teacher.  Refurbished classrooms, the Innovation Centre and new facilities are now in use.  My thanks to Richard Newton and his very hardworking team for achieving so much in the summer holidays.

We had some excellent news over the summer, the two Year 8 boys aged 13, Shea John and Toby de la Billiere, who took their Latin GCSE last term both achieved a staggering A*.  Well done to both boys and to Mr Price.

Many congratulations to Sam Chichester-Clark (Year 7) on being awarded a Music Scholarship.  Sam has worked very hard learning the bassoon and it has really been a pleasure to see him make such wonderful progress.

It was very heartening to hear that over the summer last year’s Kinder pupils successfully completed their pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.  An excellent achievement.

Boarding places are filling up quickly, if you do require your child to board or are considering boarding please contact Mr Wood for more information.

Lastly this is a timely reminder to parents of children in Year 5 and above to consider having a chat regarding future education.  I am always available and very pleased to offer advice on the next stage.  Please telephone Sarah in the office for an appointment.

This term brings many new challenges for the children and much for them to look forward to and enjoy.  I wish you all a wonderful year ahead.

 With kindest regards,

Peter Phillips
