S. Anselm's

A full boarding and day school for boys and girls from Nursery to 16

Introduction to Boarding

At S. Anselm’s we aim to make boarding fun and enjoyable for all.

We have a very long tradition of boarding at S. Anselm’s and the boarding house forms the very heart of the school. We have nine residential members of staff (including the Headmaster and his wife) who are very active in our programme of evening and weekend activities and who form close bonds with all of our children. We take great pride in the quality of our care given to all of our boarders, whilst ensuring that each individual learns essential skills and qualities required for later life.

The school offers full, weekly and flexi-boarding, tailored to the needs of the individual. We have a strong sense of family and community at S. Anselm’s and parents are very much involved in their children’s experience. Parents and relatives are encouraged to attend matches on Wednesdays and Saturdays and encouraged to take their children down into Bakewell for a hot chocolate.

Boarders attend an evening service in Bakewell Parish church every Sunday to which parents - and indeed all families - are warmly welcome. Boarding parents often join us for a full Sunday roast supper with all the boarding community afterwards.

Once boarders have done their prep and completed their music practise in the evening then there are always fun and engaging activities on offer. The activities available differ every night of the week. The activities range from dodge ball in our fabulous sports hall on a Thursday evening to pottery in the Art School on Monday nights; from water polo in our indoor pool on Tuesday to board games in the dining hall on a Friday.

We listen very carefully to what our children are saying to us, and if we feel that we can offer them an activity, we will. Bakewell is in a super location, with lots happening in the town and surrounding villages all of the time, so if we get the opportunity to get the children out of school, whether it be to the theatre, Christmas markets, or to watch a premiership football match, then we will take them.

Boarding at S. Anselm’s is a fabulous experience and gives children a childhood that is rich in opportunities, friendships and excitement. The children learn precious skills that will serve them throughout their lives and they leave as well rounded individuals who are well prepared for life beyond the school. Put quite simply, boarding life at S. Anselm’s rivals that offered at any boarding school in the country.
