Kinder Art Workshop
On Wednesday 3rd March Kinder spent the day working with a local Artist Nicky Ward from The Bower Wirks in Wirksworth. Nicky uses found objects and recycles materials in her work, often building up a scene using found objects from the place she bases her work upon. Kinder looked at some examples of Nicky Ward’s artwork before walking round Bakewell to collect items and to take photographs. Heavy rain and then sleet meant that a stop in a coffee shop for hot chocolate was necessary.
Back at school Kinder looked through the photographs they had taken and decided to combine a number of them to create the design that was going to be used on a large canvas. Design sources included a window from the church, trees in Catcliff Woods and an old doorway. They also sorted and cleaned the items that they had found or had donated from local businesses. Nicky demonstrated a number of different techniques which could be used transform and then apply the materials. Sam Blackhurst impressed me with his persistence when knitting -with a shredded carrier bag instead of wool! At the end of the day an interesting outcome had emerged. This work will now go on display, most likely in The College Common room. Well done Kinder!
